I've been developing GUI applications for quite a while, first in X/Motif, later in Java AWT. I sometimes found myself wishing that I could just stick a ruler up against the screen to get the distance and size of things, preferably in pixels, so that I could arrange other areas of the GUI in a similar way. So I knocked off this applet one night.

The horizontal and vertical rulers work kind of like tape measures - as you resize them longer, you see more gradations of the scales.
